The walk from Benfleet to Leigh-on-Sea took over an hour in the baking sun (30°C?) and was one of the dullest and excessively hot walks I’ve ever done!
The Thames was well and truly out and I’m sure Leigh would look a lot different once the tide comes in. On the waterfront at Leigh there are several attractive pubs and restaurants which were busy on this hot, summer’s day. A short uphill walk took me into the very pleasant town with lots of independent shops and cafes.
Leigh is a rather nice place, though a lower temperature and some water in the Thames would have been nice. The walk from Benfleet to Leigh is not recommended.
