On a late-afternoon walk along London’s South Bank, and before darkness descended, we came across blocks of a melting iceberg outside Tate Modern. Shipped all the way from Greenland by the artist Olafur Eliasson, the short-lived exhibition is intended to show the reality of climate change.

Face-Time – Erik Tarloff
What a terrific novel this is – I raced through it in a couple of days.
A first novel, written 20 years ago, it’s the story of a US president’s extra-marital affair involving a young couple working in the White House. It’s about power rather than politics and is an easy, well-written tale. Fabulous.
I’m on the lookout for his two later novels – I think I’ve tracked down one of them. -

Swedish artist Carl Larsson
I came across the Swedish artist Carl Larsson and thought I’d share his bright, colourful works.
His family home is now a museum and more of his work can be found using this Internet search.

Westhumble 6 mile walk
It’s a while since I had a decent length walk and so the return of the sun was an incentive to take one on.
Westhumble to Dorking is familiar to me, though today there was an unplanned, muddy detour towards the end. I’ve mapped the walk using Mapmywalk.com. I had a phase of mapping all my walks but somehow I lost the enthusiasm, but now I’m returning to the site to resume mapping.

Ricky Jay
The American actor and magician, Ricky Jay, has died.
In one of my favourite films, Things Change, Ricky Jay has a small part with some memorable David Mamet lines. The film opens as follows:Shoe-shop owner: “May I help you?”
Silver (Ricky Jay): “A friend of ours would like to speak to you this evening.”
Shoe-shop owner: “I just shine shoes.”
Silver (Ricky Jay): “There’ll be shoes there.”
