20th February 2026 – 8 books found at Fara Books, Teddington

Not getting out much due to a stinker of a cold meant I ran out of books. An e-book downloaded from the library and a re-read from the shelves kept me going but some serious shopping was required.

Fara Books in Teddington is one of my favourite charity bookshops and three-quarters of an hour was sufficient to find 8 promising reads.

10th February 2026 – How’s the cold going Mike?

An absolute stinker of a cold. It’s now been 6 days since I last left the house. Also, I’ve managed to totally break my only pair of reading glasses, so reading books is out of the question but I can enlarge text on the screen. [Idea: eBooks on the iPad can be read with enlarged text!]

It’s impossible to buy glasses on the web with my prescription and it takes around a fortnight to obtain shop-ordered specs. This will dent my reading statistics. Grrrr!

2nd February 2026 – I could have drowned

Towards the end of a walk I was nearly trapped by an overflowing River Mole at Leatherhead.

I came across a section where the path was partially covered. I continued on and came across a section that was completely flooded. I loitered, took a few pictures and then looked at my map to see what alternative path I could pick up. I turned back and when I got back to the partially flooded section I found it was even more flooded. If I had dawdled longer I may have been wading through a flooded path.

Not dangerous but certainly wet!!
