Some confusion and problems resulted when, of 3 text messages sent to me from the same sender, the first message was received after the second and third message. Some confusion and problems resulted when, of 3 text messages sent to me from the same sender, the first message was received after the second and third message.

I have found the following interesting extract on Wikipedia:

“Various studies have shown that around 1% to 5% of messages are lost entirely, even during normal operation conditions, and others may not be delivered until long after their relevance has passed.”

So my wife’s confirmation-of-receipt messages (ie “Ta”) don’t sound such a silly idea after all.

    iPhones have a feature in text messaging where it says ‘delivered’ and there is the option for ‘read’ to show up as well under your particular text. Meaning to indicate that your text was received and read. My husband and I have iPhones, my mother does not. She has some android concoction. We often text each other about kids’ arrangements etc and she started a rule by which each text has to be acknowledged with an ‘ok’ to show that it was received and read as I don’t think her phone does that. Anyway, so that is now what we do.

    What Dylan does, that the girls have now picked up that I quite like, is acknowledge a statement with a ‘Got it.’ For example “Brush your teeth after you finish your ice cream cone.”
    “Got it.” Now I feel acknowledged and have more faith that they will follow through with the instruction.
