Many years ago, when I first walked along the River Wey, I was overwhelmed by the stunning autumn colours, and I was hoping to repeat the experience today. Unfortunately I came too soon and there’s probably another 2 or 3 weeks to go before the trees change colour. But it was a glorious, sunny day so it was still a rewarding walk.

The walk begins by crossing the M25, and for the first 10 minutes the noise is deafening.

Much further into the walk the river path was diverted into woods for a couple of miles and I managed to take a wrong path, ending up in the pleasant village of Ripley with the opportunity to enjoy a coffee and cake. Whilst on the diversion I came across golfers firing across a large lake towards the distant target and I expressed my admiration of their skills.
