Fallen Leaves

I watched the Finish film Fallen Leaves in a cold Curzon cinema. It’s had rave reviews and is described as quirky. I normally like quirky but this was odd and I didn’t get it. I would categorise it as an arthouse movie – I don’t think I’m into these.
[Update – in July 2025 I watched most of this on tv and could see considerable charm in the film. So I’ll give
I’ve commented on this before, but why are the ads at the Wimbledon Curzon so deafeningly loud. I think I’ll seek an answer from Curzon…..

North Yorkshire coast

The weather wasn’t great, but we had six super days on the North Yorkshire coast. Trains and buses to Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby, Filey and Bridlington. Special mention to a wonderful second-hand bookshop in Scarborough which has just moved to the adjacent, much bigger building. See https://www.mrslofthouse.co.uk/blog/

Sutton 2 – Fylde 1

Sutton 2 – Fylde 1
A dreadful first half ended in an extra-time goal for the visiting, lower division team. A different Sutton team came out for the second half (was it a strong cup of half-time tea, or a bollocking from the manager?) resulted in a terrific goal followed by a second 5 minutes later. An entertaining second half made up for Sutton’s poor effort in the first half. I’m glad I turned out for this FA Cup, first-round match.

Sutton 0 – Salford 2

Sutton 0 – Salford 2
Was this the highlight of the game?!
A dispiriting game and result. One team playing passing football, the other one booting the ball up the pitch. Sutton have won only one of their last 22 league games. The morale of the team and coaching staff must be rock-bottom and is reflected in their position at the bottom of the league. Although it’s still early in the season, relegation seems highly possible. Perhaps the club is just too small for this league and I can’t see them returning to it should they be relegated.
